Christian Counselling Centre

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."          -2 Corinthians 1:3-4

The Christian Counselling Centre was started 16years back and functioned every Thursday evening with the help of a psychiatrist and a medical doctor. In January 2005, women's fellowship rededicated this ministry and appointed a professional Christian counsellor so that this service is available on all days. This ministry is to help individuals gain better understanding, improve decision-making abilities and problem solving skills and to help in personal growth for effective living. It allows people to talk through their own areas of difficulty with a trained counsellor, explore the issues and through prayer seek God's guidance in finding solutions. This ministry is open to all.

Congregation's Involvement

Though counselling requires professional training, we encourage our congregation members to be a part of this ministry, by taking on the role of Volunteer Lay Counsellors. A one-day Orientation Workshop on Lay Counselling was organized for those members interested in knowing about Christian Counselling. The Orientation Workshop was followed by a Training Course for Lay Counsellors.

Objectives of our Christian Counselling Ministry

  1. To encourage premarital counselling and make it mandatory for all couples specially those getting married in the KIRK.
  2. To sensitise the members of the Congregation to the challenges facing Christian families and their impact.
  3. To conduct periodic workshops on Family Life Enrichment for the members of the Congregation so as to prevent or minimize family problems as well as enable families to deal with problems as and when they arise. Guests are welcome at these workshops.
  4. To offer Bible based Counselling service to individuals or families, needing and seeking such help.
  5. To train interested members of the Congregation as Lay Counsellors with basic skills in Counselling and to identify cases needing referral for professional help.

The Centre has the services of a well-qualified part time Counsellor and four fully qualified Counsellors who are members of our Church. Of these, a husband and wife team have doctorates and are internationally recognized as Counsellors, trainers and faculty. Another lady Counsellor is nationally recognized as Counsellor, trainer and faculty; and the fourth is a retired Pastor with wide counselling experience.

Any one in need can just walk in for help or call over the telephone.
